Death is a Trifecta

red sunset

I while back I read about an American Indian belief that at the end there are 3 deaths.

I know this is a bit of a morbid topic, but one that may create thoughtful insight into how we should live our lives, and if you think about it - it's actually true.

The first death

When the physical body dies, the last breath is taken.

The second death

When the body is laid to rest, buried in the ground, or cremated and returned to the earth.

The third and final death

When there are no people left who knew or remember the person.

This final point struck home whilst watching an episode of "Time Team".  The archaeologists discovered the remains of a woman who had been buried in a field for over 1500 years.  There was nothing to show this persons struggles and joys she had lived in her life, no one could identify who she was. All her experiences, trials and tribulations where lost to the earth.

BUT, we can take comfort in the knowledge that we can do our very best in the NOW, using every moment to give, work, laugh and do all we can do each day to make this world a better place for yourself and everyone around you.

Action may not always bring happiness...but there is no happiness without action.
